| The Aquamarine Parure was not made as such but different pieces came together over the years to form what's commonly referred to as the Aquamarine Parure. It all began with the Art Deco style tiara, made by Dutch Jeweller Kempen, Begeer & Vos from Diamonds and Brazilian Aquamarines, an eighteenth birthday present for Princess Juliana from her parents in 1927. It is a very distinct 1920's diamond and aquamarine bandeau topped with seven briolette cut Aquamarines. Originally it's supposed to be worn on the forehead, like Princess Irene did in 1960's. Also for her 18th birthday, Princess Juliana received a belle époque style diamond and aquamarine demi-parure or suite set in platinum : the long necklace can be shortened and partly turned into a bracelet.. A birthday gift from her Grand-mother, Queen Dowager Emma. This stunning suite was made by Jeweller Burnier in The Hague. The earrings that match the briolette cut Aquamarines of the tiara were a wedding present from Princess Juliana's mother in law, Princess Armgard, in 1937. The large brooch in Art Deco style with a large rectangular Aquamarine set with baguette cut smaller aquamarines was also a wedding present, from Prince Bernhard in 1937. It was not until after the Second World War that Queen Juliana started to wear these jewels in public. Princess Beatrix and her sisters wore the parure many times when they were younger. The last time Queen Beatrix wore the complete parure was at the State Banquet in Denmark in the 1980's. Since then only Princess Margriet and Princess Maxima have worn the complete parure. Queen Beatrix does however wear parts of the parure (brooch, earrings, bracelet). Apart from this Aquamarine parure, Queen Juliana owned many more Aquamarine Jewellery. |
