Bracelet of the Colonies

In 1937 Princess Juliana received a huge platinum and diamond bracelet from the peoples of the Dutch East Indies for her marriage to prince Bernhard of Lippe-Biesterfeld. The bracelet was designed and made by Jeweller Bouman in The Hague. The broad diamond bracelet, containing 1.700 brilliant cut South African diamonds 34 of which were larger ones, shows the crest of the Kingdom of the Netherlands sided by two Garuda or mythical  birds. The outer motifs on the rim were taken from the Buddhist monument of Borobodur on Java.

The bracelet came in a box made of a special gold alloy named Suasa which is highly regarded  in the East Indies.

Queen Juliana wore the bracelet quite often until the early 1970's.

It is said that this historical bracelet has been broken up in the 1990's to make smaller diamond bracelets (1 +2) and three brooches (two Garuda's and one Crest of the Netherlands), although the latter have never been seen as such.
