Diamond Festoon Tiara

The Festoon Tiara is one of the settings of the Diamond Festoon Necklace, the all diamond Jewellery set Queen Wilhelmina received from her father, King Willem III in 1889.

Although a frame existed, this setting was not seen until 2003, when to everyone's surprise, Princess Maxima wore the tiara frame with the five festoons from the necklace. The tiara setting is a bit reminiscent of a tiara worn by the first Queen of Holland, Hortsense.

Recently also Princess Margriet has worn it and as of late Queen Beatrix has started wearing the rivière of large diamonds without the triangles. It seems the festoons are now (semi) permanently set on the tiara frame thus adding yet another new, albeit unusual, tiara to the collection.
