Diamond & Pearl Devant de Corsage

This diamond and pearl devant de corsage is said to have belonged to Russian Empress Maria Feodorovna, grandmother of both Queen Sophie and King Willem III. It it therefore sometimes referred to as " the Russian  brooch" . The brooch came into possession of the Orange-Nassau's through Queen Sophie who inherited it from her mother Catharina Paulowna. The large centre diamond is a slightly Pinkish diamond. The large bow brooch with drop pearl pendants was first seen on a portrait of Queen Sophie and was frequently worn by Queen Wilhelmina and Queen Juliana in it's original form, or at least as a devant de corsage. Since the 1980's it has been worn by Queen Beatrix like a brooch with one or three large pear shaped diamond pendants or three drop pearls. Princess Maxima has worn the impressive diamond bow without any pendants.
