Diamond & Sapphire Earrings

After Queen Wilhelmina died in 1962 it was decided that the tiara from the Wedding Gift Parure was to be broken up to make small jewels for her four granddaughters. It is unclear how many pieces were made and if indeed all the stones from the tiara were actually used. All four granddaughters seem to have received at least one pair of earrings and possibly also brooches and bracelets. Queen Beatrix has a pair of very large earring that can be changed into at least 4 different styles. The earrings were designed by The Hague Jeweller Bodes & Bode. The Jeweller may have been inspired by the long earrings once owned by Queen Anna Paulowna. Queen Beatrix also wears a pair of earrings in the shape of stars/flowers with a sapphire in the middle. Princess Margriet also seems to have two pairs of earrings: one pair of all diamonds that is similar to Queen Beatrix's pair of long earrings and one pair of diamond and sapphire earrings. Princess Irene also owns one pair of diamond and sapphire earrings and one all diamonds.
