| The origin of this necklace made from large natural pearls is uncertain. Some sources suggest that the Orange-Nassau collection contains a pearl necklace that dates back to Amalia von Solms-Braunfels, wife of Prince Frederik-Hendrik. Whether true or not, since then, quite a few spouses of Princes of Orange have been portrayed with a large pearl necklace. However it is more likely that the necklace belonged to Queen Sophie who had a substantial collection of pearls. Since then this necklace made of large natural pearls has been worn frequently by Dutch Royal ladies. |
