| This three strings of Pearls necklace with the large round diamond and pearl clasp probably belonged to Queen Emma, although it might have been in the family for much longer. Princess Louise of Prussia, wife of Prince Frederik of the Netherlands, was portrayed around 1840 with a similar necklace. Queen Emma was first photographed with the three string Pearl Necklace and the Diamond and Pearl lock in the 1890's after she had become a widow of King Willem III and Regent for her daughter, Queen Wilhelmina. Queen Juliana was rarely seen with this piece, although she did appreciate pearl jewellery. Queen Beatrix has worn it on occasion. In recent years it has frequently been worn by the Princesses Margriet, Laurentien and Maxima. |
